Panama Pacific Exposition Urn Conservation
San Francisco, CA
The
Panama Pacific Exposition Urn is an ornate urn composed
of gypsum. It is hexagonal in shape, adorned with cherubs
and swags. Once a part of the 1915 San Francisco World’s
Fair, it is now displayed at the San Francisco Conservatory
of Flowers.
Prolonged
exposure to the environment, biological growth, and air
pollution contributed to the deterioriation of this historic
urn. ARG Conservation Services performed cleaning tests,
followed by a complete cleaning and application of a biocide
and water-repellent coating to deter further biological
growth on the stone’s surface. |
