Exterior Finishes Treatment of an Historic Monument
Lotta's Fountain
San Francisco, CA

Lotta’s Fountain is San Francisco’s oldest surviving monument. Given to the city in 1875 by performer Lotta Crabtree, the monument survived the 1906 earthquake, when it became a meeting place for people in search of their families. In 1975 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

In 2006, the City Arts Commission retained ARG Conservation Services to provide specialized conservation for Lotta’s Fountain prior to the Earthquake Centennial Celebration. ARG/CS performed a condition survey, outlined treatment guidelines, and provided a variety of conservation services, including removal of debris, surface cleaning, and touching up exposed areas where previous coatings were worn.

ARG/CS is proud to work with the City to provide conservation guidelines and treatments for the City of San Francisco’s historic monuments.
