Pony
Express Stations Stabilization
Restoration of Historic Sites
Central Nevada
Located
in the central Nevada desert, the two Pony Express Stations,
two Overland Stage Stations, and an Overland Telegraph Station
are constructed of stone and adobe mortar dating back to
the early 1860s. These structures, which are listed on the
National Register of Historic Places, were in desperate
need of stabilization.
The
scope of work included a comprehensive Historic Structure
Report and extensive conditions assessment. Also included
in the scope of work were working drawings, specifications
for the work, and administration of the stabilization efforts.
A unique stabilization method was developed specifically
for the sites and tested in situ. To maintain the integrity
of the sites, the existing stones were left in place and
new adobe mortar was pumped into the walls using customized
pressure. |
